Happy 2nd Birthday to my son Cade! Here's a shot I took of a tank car carrying his name...I swear I had nothing to do with it!

This week's update contains photos of the TTX and RailBox series of box cars. The RailBox RBOX and ABOX series have been around for decades and in the last few years hundreds if not thousands of excess height TBOX and FBOX cars have been built. Here's a few good samples of these bright box cars.

I'm proud to announce the birth of my second son, Cort Alan Wilkerson. I've posted a photo for this week's update. I'll get back into the swing of posting more railroad photos in the coming weeks when things settle down around here

This week's photos are of Union Pacific's 'Geeps' (4 axle EMD locomotives) without dynamic brakes. Thre aren't too many of these running around so I take a shot when they make an appearance. Most of these locomotives are used for switching since that chore doesn't require dynamics. Enjoy these shots of UP's GP15s and GP38s.

Following last week's covered hopper photos, I thought I would add some interesting open top hoppers. A pair of RRLX hoppers appear to be former Oregon, Pacific and Eastern equipment but that's just a guess. Also a pair of ballast hoppers (CN 90431 in MOW orange and recently painted LGEX 4778) I shot at a quarry operation at Dell Rapids, Souther Dakota (20 miles north of Sioux Fals). There are also Chicago Northwestern, Missouri Pacific, Soo Line, Rio Grande and Union Pacific hoppers.

This week's update contains photos of covered hoppers of various styles and from different railroads. CLSX 5011 appears to be an unpainted stainless steel car but I guess it could be painted. Anyone know? Other hoppers of interest are the Crandic, KYLE, MKT, MoPac, CNW, Soo Line and Klemme Coop.

This week's update contains photos of some of the less glamorous locomotives built by General Electric. The standard cab, as opposed to the popular wide cab, locomotives in the Dash 8 series still work throughout the Union Pacific system. The four axle units in this update were formerly Southern Pacific 8031 and Cotton Belt 8058.

Whenever an interesting boxcar rolls by, I try to get a shot of it. Of interest is a DME boxcar which appears to be of Western Pacific heritage. A MoPac box car in the 2 tone scheme made an appearance in Roseville along with various shortline and former shortline cars.

This week's update covers locomotives wearing a yellow Union Pacific patch over their formal owner's paint scheme. Untouched DRGW and CNW locomotives are becoming very rare with only a few examples rolling around the western US. Someday soon, Southern Pacific locomotives will be in the same situation. Enjoy these shots of the 'unpure' patched locomotives...

One of McCloud Railway's last customers is the Dicalite Corp. located on the Cayton siding southeast of McCloud, CA. Dicalite filed a protest of the pending abandonment of the line but their argument didn't sway the Surface Transportation Board. Since this facility won't be here much longer, I took a drive to Cayton last summer and took some shots of the facility where they load diatomaceous earth into covered hoppers. Read more about the McCloud Railway on Jeff Moore's excellent McCloud Rails website: http://www.trainweb.org/mccloudrails/News.html
